It has an attached dust cap to keep out dirt and debris, and can also be used on your safety chain connector to hold it in place, to keep it from bouncing around. This way, you don't need to secure it each time you use it; you can just hook it right here, and the excess you need to get to your trailer's still available. The control box is fuse protected, and has its own dedicated power supply from the battery. This is going to allow it to provide all of the necessary connections at your trailer, without using power from your factory harness. more

And it's gonna provide us with a 4-Pole flat trailer connector, giving us all the lights we need to safely get down the road, like our taillights, turn signals, and our brake lights.Typically this is designed to stay on the inside of the vehicle, but we wanted to have it down here by our receiver tube, that way it would be ready for us when we tow. There is a grommet on the inside that we can easily route the wire down, and then just route it over to the hitch here. And use the dust cover to attach it so it doesn't drag the ground. Our kit's not gonna require any kind of cutting or splicing into our factory wires. more

It's going to give you all the proper lighting functions for your trailer, both turn signals, your brake lights, your running lights, and your ground. What I really like about this wiring harness is it's drawing power from the battery instead of directly from the taillights. Some of your wiring harnesses that are out there, they'll plug directly into your taillights. Then your four pole's going to run directly down. And it's drawing power from the lights or from the wiring on your vehicle. more

The control box receives a fused power supply from the battery, so the lights going to your trailer aren't feeding off of your tail lamp circuits, but they have their own dedicated power circuit. This is great, because if you have a fault on your trailer that causes a short, or the fuse to open, it won't affect the tail lighting on your vehicle, just the fuse for the control box. Attached is a dust cap to help keep out dirt and debris, and it can also be used to help store it when not in use. more

One thing I do like about this wiring kit, is that right here on the of the 4-pole it does have a protective coating, and since it is on the outside that's a nice ting to have. Now that we've seen the end result, let's show you how we get it installed. To begin our installation we're gonna need to open up our rear hatch, so we can get access to our taillights so we can pull them out. Now on each side we're gonna have two plastic covers covering the bolts that are holding our taillight in. So I'm gonna take a flat blade screwdriver, and I'm actually just gonna come underneath these covers and pop them out. more

Part number is C56164. When we need it, we'll pull it out from underneath the panel. We're just going to route this right over the weather stripping here, just want to avoid the striker area. See, this is going to compress for us and protect our wiring. Just like that, we'll be ready to hook up, have lights on whatever it is we need lights on. When we're done with it, we'll just tuck it up just like that and then I like to use the little protective cover. more
